About the Author
Tirupathi R. Chandrupatla has been a Professor and Founding Chair of Mechanical Engineering at Rowan University, Glassboro, New Jersey since 1995. He received his MS degree in design and manufacturing from the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay, and his PhD from the University of Texas, Austin. He began his career as a design engineer with Hindustan Machine Tools (HMT), Bangalore. His first teaching post was at I.I.T., Bombay. He has also taught at the University of Kentucky, and GMI Engineering and Management Institute (Kettering University), before joining Rowan. Chandrupatla is author of Introduction to Finite Elements in Engineering, Optimization Concepts and Applications in Engineering, and Finite Element Analysis for Engineering and Technology. The first book has been translated into Spanish, Korean, Greek, and Chinese languages. Chandrupatla's research interests include design, optimization, manufacturing engineering, finite element analysis, and quality and reliability. He published widely in these areas and serves as a consultant to industry. Chandrupatla is a registered Professional Engineer and also a Certified Manufacturing Engineer. He is a member of ASEE, ASME, SAE, and SME.

This book is trash

This book is bad, really bad. I'm sure the only people buying it are Rowan students that are taking his classes. He leaves out huge chunks of work in the examples. Some of the problem do not relate to the chapter that they are in. The whole text is very hard to read and follow. The whole book is excessively mathematical, not that the math is hard but he likes to sub out large functions or things easily conveyed with text for variable replacements. I am constantly flipping all over to see what Y or Q or X means in this case when a text description would go a long way toward a clearer understanding.

About the Author
Dr Daniel Keown has worked as a registered doctor since graduating with a medical degree from Manchester University in 1998. In 2008, he completed a degree in Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture from Kingston University, and he has studied alongside the renowned Dr Wang Ju-Yi at the Institute of Channel Diagnosis in Beijing. He lives and practises in Tunbridge Wells, UK.

A must read for anyone interested in eastern medicine and acupuncture

If you have an interest in western and eastern medicine as I do, then this is a must read. Daniel Keown writes with precision, expertise and amazing insight in both traditions of medicine. I have read other books on these topics; however this book is set apart because for one, he writes with the fluidity and skill of a master novelist leading you on a journey through the very creation and animation of life. If you are interested in how you came to be “you” as a human being with all the complexities and mysteries of life, you will be fascinated by this book too. I found the descriptive narrative informative, inspiring and fun to read. He presents the material in bites of information that I could easily digest and absorb. He also makes a compelling case for how acupuncture mysteries like qi, energy flow and meridians match up with the West’s understanding of body science. If I understand Dr Keown correctly, the divergence between east and west is more that the west has not fully understood the functions and meaning of electricity, collagen and fascia in the body. I learned a great deal about both traditions of medicine and highly recommend this book. If you are a student or practitioner of acupuncture or naturopathic medicine you simply must read this book and add it to your collection of reference material. I know I will be sharing the insights and knowledge with my friends and colleges. Enjoy!

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED A MUST READ

Touches on different aspects of western medicine and acupuncture. This book is brilliant and so fascinating, I couldn't put it down, explains in detaill about different aspects of surgery and how keyhole surgery is the best as there is minimum healing time rather than a full blown operation, better for the patient, better for the healing process, also touches on regeneration and research in humans and non union bone fracture,, mentions cancer which spread uncontrollable cells which have lost their connection with the body and have become the enemy, collagen which gives bones strength and forms connective tissues with organs , is abundant in protein and explains indepth the whole concept of the body in relation acupuncture.

Keown, an M.D., posits that the features of acupuncture can be explained by comparing acupoints with the organizing centers of embryological development & using the features of the fascia to explain the channels through which Qi, the intracellular communication which Keown identifies as body electricity, moves. A more plausible explanation for the phenomena than other western explantions, so far.

About the Author
Mr. Smith is a Project Manager at Wolf Robotics in Fort Collins, Colorado, specializing in projects advancing the state of the capability automatic robotic solutions and has been with Wolf Robotics since early 2013. Prior to that, Chris was Co-Founder and Vice President of Engineering of Friction Stir Link, Inc. (FSL) in Brookfield, WI which was founded in 2001. At FSL, Chris led efforts in the commercialization of friction stir welding and the related technologies. Prior to FSL, Chris began his career at A.O. Smith Automotive Products Company, where he was responsible for the development of new robotic processing technologies. Throughout his career, Mr. Smith has lead the development and integration of new automated technologies and has been involved with friction stir welding, arc welding, machining and material handling technologies. He developed the first production capable industrial robotic system for friction stir welding. Chris has managed projects leading to significant advancements in robotic material handling, friction stir welding and its related technologies, as well as robotic machining and drilling. At FSL he managed projects leading to many of North America’s first and/or most significant friction stir welding applications. Mr. Smith has a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Colorado-Boulder and Master of Science degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in Mechanical Engineering. He was awarded the American Welding Society’s A.F. Davis Silver Medal Award in 2001. Chris has authored over 30 papers and chapters on FSW in two engineering books and has two patents. Chris also is co-chair of the American Welding Society’s C6 Committee on Recommended Practices for Friction Stir Welding.

Rajiv S. Mishra is a professor in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, and Site Director, NSF IUCRC for Friction Stir Processing, at the University of North Texas. Dr. Mishra’s publication record includes 255 papers with an h-index of 39. Out of these, 10 of his papers have more than 100 citations. He has many ‘firsts’ in the field of friction stir welding and processing. He co-authored the first review paper (2005), co-edited the first book on the subject (2007), edited/co-edited seven TMS symposium proceedings, and served as guest editor for Viewpoint Set in Scripta Materialia (2008). He also has three patents in this field. He published the first paper on friction stir processing (2000) as a microstructural modification tool.

I had lost my hardback copy of this book some years ago and always wished I had it back. But I decided to cheap-out and go with this re-print. Too bad. The original book is absolutely beautiful, and this one is terrible looking. It IS, not looks like, IS a bad photocopy. Get a better version.

I have bought this title for use as a reference book, as I am undertaking honey bee studies. So far I have found it to be very informative and there is certainly no doubt the the Author certainly knew his subject intimately. A very worthwhile purchase, this book is going to be well read.

Amazing Illustrations

For me, the primary draw to "Anatomy of the Honey Bee" is the illustrations. Carefully handdrawn honey bee stingers may not be your cup of tea, but I find them fascinating to look at. H.R. Giger has nothing on this stuff. The very idea that there are people in the world that are so infinitely (I dare not say "intimately") familiar with these insects is mindboggling.
The text is interesting as well, but I've never read it straight through. I find it
more fruitful to think of the text as extended captions to the amazing illustrations.
