The classic classical guitar method

This book is almost 40 years old, but it is still one of the best guitar methods around. An excellent resource for any guitarist who is serious about improving technique. It includes progressive studies to enhance both left and right hand technique and numerous solo pieces at various levels of difficulty.
I made the mistake of loaning my copy to a friend and he liked it so much he won't give it back! I'm buying another one today.

The Standard for 100 Years

A wonderful and comprehensive book to help you learn classical guitar either with a teacher or by self study. It has been around for a hundred years for a reason.
You get just about everything including all the scales, keys up and down the complete keyboard. And the best part is the enormous amount of music written by Carcassi. And there is a series of pieces arranged by order of difficulty which is a great way to improve as you work your way through it. And Carcassi wrote some wonderful music.

Breakin' a sweat with the old nylon

This book is the boot camp of classical guitar studies. Only serious students and aspiring nylon knights need apply for this school in a book!!! Reading and understanding musical notation and vocabulary are a must(this book contains no tabulature) for aspiring classical guitarist, and this book certainly leaves nothing out in that aspect. It starts the student of with the basics, but progresses quickly. The studies are actually interesting, challenging and fun to play all the way through. No "Mary had a Little Lamb" or "Three merry Men" songs here to practice your skills on. It certainly kept my interest going in strengthening my weak reading skills. My only complaint is the lack of time spent on proper technique, and the fact that there are no pictures to help the student understand this aspect of classical. But I suppose that could be found elsewhere. I have no regrets in purchasing this book and it has only helped and inspired me in my pursuit of the instrument.

The material is based on several tried-and-tested courses for scientists and engineers taught by the authors, and all the exercises and problems are classroom-tested.

About the Author
Guido Buzzi-Ferraris is full professor of process systems engineering at Politecnico die Milano, Italy, where he holds two courses: "Methods and Numerical Applications in Chemical Engineering" and "Regression Models and Statistics". He works on numerical analysis, statistics, differential systems, and optimization. He has authored books of international relevance on numerical analysis, such as "Scientific C++" edited by Addison-Wesley, and over than 200 papers on international magazines. He is the inventor and the developer of BzzMath library, which is currently adopted by academies, R&D groups, and industries. He is permanent member of the "EFCE Working Party - Computer Aided Process Engineering" since 1969 and editorial advisory board of "Computers & Chemical Engineering" since 1987.

Flavio Manenti is assistant professor of process systems engineering at Politecnico di Milano, Italy. He obtained his academic degree and PhD at Politecnico di Milano, where he currently collaborates with Professor Buzzi-Ferraris. He holds courses on "Process Dynamics and Control of Industrial Processes" and "Supply Chain Optimization" and he works on numerical analysis, process control and optimization. He has also received international scientific awards, such as Memorial Burianec (Prague, CZ) and Excellence in Simulation (Lake Forest, CA, USA), for his research activities and scientific publications.

I love this book!

I bought this book while searching for directives to do with my art therapy groups. The cover was so enticing I had to take a look, but I never expected to find the treasure trove inside. This is the book I have dreamed of writing myself. It is laid out beautifully, it is colorful, has great photos, good explanations, and is overall very inviting. Just thumbing through it makes me want to pull out some paints and play.

One of my favorite features is the questions to think about after each directive.

I think this is a great book for an individual to explore self expression through art, and also for the art therapy intern, hungry for ideas.

Good Starter Book

This book offers up solid advice for the person who would like to be more expressive but isn't sure where to start. There are easy projects that can readily be adapted to one's own ideas. Colorful photos accompany the clear, concise directions. Questions are prompts for exploring issues and feelings released as we explore ourselves using left-brain creativity. I simultaneously was reading Estes' Women Who Run with the Wolves, a Jungian interpretation of folk tales that provide clues about how to access our inner wild woman. Exploring Yourself through Art was the perfect practical manual to supplement that intellectual journey.

She acts as the general editor of Routledge's Major Works History of Feminism and Pickering and Chatto's Gender and Genre series.�

LIFE-CHANGING! You do not need to read the entire book to follow the system, but I was so impressed with it that I read the entire thing. I used this in combination with the CD of white noise and had my daughter sleeping through the night the very first night I implemented it (at two months old). I could almost see the relief in her eyes as I followed this system and she was finally able to get the sleep she was desperate for. It has been four years and I STILL play the CD in her room each night. This is my go-to baby shower book and I have purchased it countless times since.

I have read the book many times and even have pages bookmarked that I revisit when I reach a new developmental stage and need advice for my baby. I like that it is not extreme (not attachment parenting but not the fever method either) so it gives balanced advice and doesn't guilt you for using one method over another. It also provides different options rather than preaching one "right" way.

So thankful for this book!

Purchased this book after seeing a video by Dr. Harvey Karp while at the Birthing Center-- his video helped turn our first day with our amazing but screaming-from-the-moment-he-was-born newborn into a time we could enjoy (and feel confident that we could help soothe our poor little guy). This book (read entirely standing while rocking a screaming child who took two hours to rock to sleep and then only slept maybe two hours at time) changed our world- after reading it and following all suggestions, our son was able to sleep for several hours at a time (which means I was able to sleep several hours at a time as well which made everything so much better!). I continued to follow his suggestions through the months and by 8 months old he was successfully sleeping in his own room in a crib, with very very minimal crying, if any when put to bed.

About the Author
Gary Gruver is an experienced executive with a proven track record of transforming software development processes and working with executives in large organizations. As coauthor of A Practical Approach to Large-Scale Agile Development, he documents how HP revolutionized software development while he was the director of the LaserJet Firmware development lab at HP. As VP of QE, Release, and Operations at Macys.com he led their transition to continuous delivery. Gary currently lives in Idaho with his wife and enjoys skiing, hiking, and mountain biking.

Tommy Mouser has been directly involved in the design, development, qualification, and delivery of software systems for over 30 years. For the past eight years, while working at HP and Macys.com, his primary focus has been on working with his teams and partners on a journey toward Agile methodologies. Tommy currently resides in Boise, Idaho, with his wife, Debbie. He enjoys a wide range of outdoor activities and has recently gotten into fly-fishing with some of his longtime friends and coworkers.

Gary and Tommy provide practical and proven advice on applying some of the most impactful Agile and DevOps benefits to large scale organizations (100 or more engineers). The focus of this book is on applying the "basic principles" of Agile and DevOps at the enterprise level, not just at the team level. The authors believe and provide evidence through real world examples how this global perspective is more effective at delivering solid business results.

"The first step executives need to understand about our approach is that it is paramount to begin with business objectives"

On empowerment: "...as leaders we feel it is important, whenever possible, to provide the framework with the objectives and let the team have as much design flexibility in defining how the work will get done. It provides them with more interesting work, and they take more ownership of the results. In addition, when the situation changes, those doing the work are likely to sense it and adapt more quickly than an executive would."

On planning for agility: "...if you are going to take advantage of the quick feedback from your customers, you will need to ensure your planning process have been modified to provide a flexible response to what you learn."

This is a MUST READ for IT executives interested in transforming the way they leverage software to run their businesses.

This book is a MUST READ for executives interested in transforming the way they leverage software to run their businesses and interact with their own customers.

Gary does a masterful job of outlining the requirements for executives to lead the transformation effort and helps to identify how planning and process are just as critical as tool selection. Often Continuous Delivery and the more vague DevOps push is a bottoms up effort lead by coders. This is a great way to add velocity, but without a centralized plan and standardization across an enterprise true benefits can't be realized. Gary takes the time to boil down these massive concepts in to digestible and actionable bites. This is a book about transforming at scale, in large enterprises with complex environments.

Gary has emerged as a principal authority in the Agile transformation space and his advising and presentations are not to be missed.

I recommend the book highly and look forward to continued writings from Gary and his team.

“Leading the Transformation” is a short and powerful read for executives who are scaling Agile and DevOps in their organizations. Two attributes make this book stand out among the thousands of Agile and DevOps sources.

First it speaks to software executives. Strong leadership is critical to scale any transformation. Yet most Agile sources focus exclusively on implementation teams, resulting in uncoordinated Agile and DevOps “pockets of excellence”. This book provides a blueprint for executives to scale the transformation across a large organization.

Second the guidance is concrete and actionable. This book complements the theory with clear, real-world recommendations. It is explicit about how IT Leads can set goals, prioritize activities across teams, establish trust and transparency, and remove bottlenecks. The book is clearly written and well-structured to support a deep dive into an area of investment (e.g. QA processes, CI/CD) or an end-to-end review to form a comprehensive plan.

Bottom line – read this book and share with the IT leaders in your organization!
