Excellent Guide on Chinese Tea Appreciation

With simplicity and clarity, Hinsch delivers advice and facts about Chinese (and Taiwanese) tea in as deft a way as a tea master would pour a fine cup of tea. The book is divided into sections on techniques and terms of tea appreciation as well as Chinese history relating to tea, and a reference to famous Chinese teas of each type (white, yellow, green, oolong, red, and black), including notes on traditional processing of the teas. The reader will be well escorted on this journey to heightened tea appreciation by a highly able and well-credentialed author who has devoted his life to researching and teaching Chinese history, has lived in Asia for a number of years, and whose references span centuries of texts written only in Chinese. I am a tea drinker, tea traveller and tea "artist". I have both the book and the Kindle edition and keep either with me when I travel to tea areas as I consider this book an essential reference work. Well written by Prof Hinsch, he cuts through the mysticism and myth of Chinese tea without destroying or belittling the cultural and societal elements so important with Chinese tea. You end up with the facts of the tea placed within its context giving you greater understanding and clarity.
If you are serious about tea then this, often humorous book, is essential reading for you.

An Underrated Gem

Published in 2008 and largely overlooked by the tea community Bret Hinschs book is a definitive read on the the state of Chinese tea today. One needs to look no further than this book for straight and concise guide to tea. The printed version is a little expensive but the kindle edition is very reasonably priced.
